Makalu Base Camp Trek



This outstanding trek in eastern Nepal is considered to be the demanding and challenging trail in the Himalaya. Trek up to Makalu Base Camp provides opportunity to explore one of the most remote and less visited tourist areas of Nepal. Trekking through remote villages and unspoiled terrain makes this trek a unique among the explorer.

Trekking high in the heart of the eastern Himalaya traversing through Arun Valley to Barun valley floor to the base of world's Fifth highest peak is an amazing lifetime experience. The landscape dramatically rises to the snow-capped peak of Makalu- 8463m- within a 40 km distance. Within this wide range of altitudes and climates variations, the Makalu-Barun area contains not only the dramatic variation of landscape but also some of the richest and most diverse species of flora and fauna in Nepal.

Lowlands are occupied mainly by Rai community having their own unique culture and language where as the Sherpa, and Shingsawa (Bhotia) are the main inhabitants in high mountain region. For the naturalist, there are spectacular displays of wildflowers and exotic plants. More than 3.000 species of flowering plants, with hundreds of orchid varieties, 48. Primroses and 25 of Nepal's 30 rhododendrons splash the hillsides with color. The forests shelter abundant wildlife, including the endangered red panda and musk deer as well as the Ghoral, Himalayan Tahr and leopard. Ornithologists have identified 400 bird species, at least 16 of which are extremely rare.

Itinerary:
Day 1: Arrive in Kathmandu. Receive and transfer to hotel. Overnight at Hotel.
Day 2: Kathmandu City Tour. Overnight at Hotel.
Day 3: Fly to Tumlingtar (950m.). Trek to Khadbari. Overnight at Lodge/tent.
Day 4: Trek Khadbari to Chichila. Overnight at tent.
Day 5: Trek Chichila to Num (1,500m.)
Day 6: Trek Num to Seduwa
Day 7: Trek Seduwa to Tashi Gaon (2,200m.)
Day 8: Trek Tashi gaon to Kauma
Day 9: Rest day at Kauma.
Day 10: Trek Kauma to Mumbuck (3,400m.)
Day 11: Trek Mumbuck to Neha Kharka (3000m.)
Day 12: Trek Neha Kharka to Sherson (4615m.)
Day 13: Trek Serson to Makalu Base Camp (5000m.)
Day 14: Explore Makalu Base Camp
Day 15: Trek back MBC TO Neha Kharka
Day 16: Trek back Neha Kharka to Mumbuck
Day 17: Trek back Mumbuk to Kauma
Day 18: Trek back KAUMA to Tashi Gaon
Day 19: Trek back Tashi Gaon to Pakuwa
Day 20: Trek back Pukuwa to Bumling
Day 21: Trek back Bumling to Tumlingtar
Day 22: Fly back to Kathmandu, meet and transfer to hotel. Overnight at hotel.
Day 23 / 24: Free days. These two days are spare days for flight delay/cancellation from Lukla. These days can be used for optional sightseeing/shopping in Kathmandu. On day 21st evening, a farewell dinner at Nepalese typical restaurant will be provided. Overnight at hotel.
Day 25: Departure. Transfer to airport for final departure.
