Officially inauguration of Nepal Tourism Year 2011

Government of Nepal has officially inaugurated the Nepal Tourism Year (NTY) 2011 with the slogan "Together for Tourism" on Friday, 26 February.

Speaking on the occasion, Prime Minister Mr. Madhav Kumar Nepal said the government expects active help and support from everyone to make this national campaign a success. He also informed about the government plans to draw 1 million tourists to Nepal during the period.

There was encouraging participation of tourism entrepreneurs, businessman, private sector, and people from various other sectors.

On this grand inauguration occasion, Vertical Adventures’ representatives have also participated on the rally organized by Trekking Agents Association of Nepal (TAAN).

VA has attended PATA Adventure Travel & Responsible Tourism Conference::

Vertical Adventures’ MD, Mr. Pasang Kazi Sherpa has attended PATA Adventure Travel and Responsible Tourism Conference hosted jointly by Pacific Asia Travel Association (PATA) and Nepal Tourism Board

The event, staged (1st to 5th February, 2010) at the Soaltee Crowne Plaza Hotel in Kathmandu, has attracted 174 delegates representing 104 companies in 25 destinations. Journalists from Asia, Western Europe and Australia are also attending the event.

The conference addressed key issues facing the industry as PATA seeks to improve awareness and generate increased commitment to sustainable and responsible tourism practices.

Himalayan 14/8000m Base Camp Marathon in 100 days

Swiss Alpine Marathon Runner, Mr. Vincent Scheidegger has successfully completed his adventurous and historical solo marathon along the base camps of World’s 14 over 8,000 meters tall mountains.
As an organizer for Nepal, the Executive Director of Vertical Adventures (P) Ltd. Mr. Lopsang Sherpa said that Mr. Scheidegger had started his 100 days marathon from Skardu K2 Base Camp, Pakistan and ended at Everest Base Camp, Nepal.
Some prominent delegates from Switzerland such as Mrs. Nicole Niquille & Marco Vuadens, the founders of Nicole Niqulle Foundation, Mr. Jean Claude Chatlain the Director of Hospital Jura, Mr. Denis Huguenin and other delegates have attended felicitations program. The program was held on 15th December, 2009 at the premises of Pasang Lhamu Nicole Niquille Hospital, Lukla.
During a daylong program locale Sherpa people, School children and monks from local monastery have performed culture programs. The President of Nicole Niquille Foundation informed that Mr. Scheidegger has contributed US$ 100,000 for Pasang Lhamu Nicole Niquille Hospital Lukla, which he raised from the sponsors.
In a press conference, Mr. Scheidegger has quoted that “I am inspired to visit Nepal again as I have found Nepalese people are more cooperative than people in other countries”.

3 Swiss Climbers have ascent Mera Peak successfully::

A group of 3 Swiss climbers led by Dr Hans Marty have successfully ascent Mera Peak (6378m) on 3rd November. 2 Sherpa Climbing guides, Mr. Mingma Tshering Sherpa and Karma Zyalgen Sherpa were in their support. After successful climbing they headed down to Honku Valley and crossed one of the toughest High Pass, Amphu Laptsa La* (5845m) before to entered to Khumbu Valley from Island Peak Base Camp.
It was a huge expedition supported by 17 Nepalese crew from Vertical Adventures (P) Ltd. Two climbers (Mr. Konrad Rothenbühler & Ms Franziska Marty) have started their venture from Jiri and joined Dr. Marty in Lukla.
They have followed the routes: Lukla, Thudingma, Chetraphu, Kote, Thagnag, Khare, Mera High Camp, Mera Peak, Hongu Valley, Amphu Laptsa Phedi (BC), Imja Glacier, Tyangboche, Namche & Lukla.
